I Moved to Seattle

I moved to Seattle. Once more, I moved to Seattle, Washington.

Moving is something I do very often, something like twelve times in Phoenix. I have not ever moved state to state, and that made it pretty simple to just pack up the car and just drive it away. Yesterday, I packed four bags and left Phoenix on a one way ticket to Seattle.

I’m very excited and a little nervous about such a big change, but this was a fantastic decision for me, and I am just bursting to get out into the city to shoot here on a regular basis. I have been to Seattle roughly nine times since 2015 so this place isn’t exactly foreign to me, but I haven’t had to exist here for more than a week at a time.

This city has such a special place in my heart and business. In regards to the business, my youtube channel started in the house I just moved into. I drove from Seattle to Oregon to capture the total eclipse which was also the first print I sold with any consistency. This city is where I started shooting for my archive of images that is just for me, a passion project that began well before there was a nikpictures.com or a @photosnik.

The move was motivated by many things, new opportunity, getting away from family, and pure creative desire. I am at heart an Arizona desert rat, I have been capturing images of the desert since I got my first camera phone, but through all of my travels the extreme diversity of images that come from this place, Seattle, are truly amazing and I have not had the time to flesh that out properly.

What does this mean for the future is probably the question I have been asked most in the past week, and I have been giving a variation of the same answer; I am one year away from a degree and a couple of certificates so I don’t think I can absolutely walk away from graduating debt free. In all reality I will have to return to Phoenix to finish that degree and cash in on the years of work it took, so at a minimum I will be back in Phoenix for August-April.

I doubt I will stay in the valley much past that, and for now I am purely focused on this new venture here in Seattle and I could not be more excited for it.
