New York City Creative Reset

New York City!

Me in the park. Shot by Rayne.

Most photographers I know have some sort of grand travel bug, myself included, where I will justify running half way around the world for a twenty dollar (or less) profit. My longtime girlfriend Rayne has recently moved to New York City and I made my first visit a couple of weeks ago. Of course this was not a photo trip, no gigs were booked, and money certainly only flowed out, but as I am editing my tourist photos there are some gems that I think are worth sharing with you.

The big apple has endless photo opportunities, but it has almost all been photographed thousands of times at least. Originality was not on my mind, I didn’t want to think that hard. I just wanted to shoot whatever my eye found, and it was fun. A few years into business where plenty of shoots are no fun at all, it can become a slippery slope to burnout and boredom(I am not there yet). Agenda-less trips like this one, where the camera and the photos are secondary to life, are the antidote to boredom or feeling stuck. I can edit as wild or not as I would like, and the shooting in New York always presents some sort of challenge whether it is the throngs of people around, the rain, or the blistering cold they had the weekend I was there. It was refreshing and beautifully uncomplicated. I got to hang out with Rayne and our dear friend June Hucko (junehucko.com), creative genius, who moved there recently as well.

These are some of my favorite shots so far, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
