Yesterday Nikon dropped the news we knew has been coming for some months now, and the internet was set ablaze. We humans of earth get not one, but two Nikon full frame mirrorless cameras to salivate over until they are released to the general public in late September. The pair of mirrorless options come as the logical next step for the camera giant while Sony has shown that mirrorless will dominate the future for a couple of years now, this announcement only leads me to believe Canon is not far behind and will follow suit with their next big announcement.  

Right off the bat, the Z7 comes in at $3,400 and the Z6 at a modest $2,000, this makes the cameras price competitive with Sony’s middle mirrorless line. The cameras will feature the first new mount on a Nikon since 1959 and this Z mount will likely completely replace the F mount by the middle of the 2020’s. Of course this means an EVF and adapters for old F mount lenses but, this feels like Nikon finally coming into the present technology catching up with Sony, Panasonic, and Canon. 

The scary news of the announcement shows the cameras will both feature only one XQD card slot (lame), and the battery life is reported that it can only shoot 4K for around 13 minutes which for some people  is a deal breaker (The Snap Chick via Youtube). As far as lenses, Nikon’s release calendar shows that a native holy trinity of lenses for the Z mount won’t be rounded out until 2020, but this is inline with what Sony did in rolling out their full frame series. I am very excited and trying to get lensrentals.com or borrowlenses.com to commit to a hard date in which they will rent this thing out so I can get my hands on it to review for you. This being the first run of mirrorless from Nikon, I do not see myself buying either of these cameras. Stay tuned for my review whenever I can get the Z7 body here and on YouTube.
